Assistant H&S officer needed for contract of up to 6 months. |
| Main Duties |
•Make every effort to be aware of forthcoming changes in legislation insofar as it impacts on Tristar Homes Ltd and assist the Health & Safety Officer to ensure the Company acts upon those changes.
•Assist in the completion of Risk Assessments and Safety Audits across all Tristar operations.
•Assist in the production and management of the Company’s Safety Audit Plan.
•Assist in the identification of Health & Safety specific training needs and deliver Health & Safety training as required.
•Assist in the up-keep and management of the Company’s Health & Safety Training database.
•Carry out site specific safety inspections as required.
•Contribute to site based Health & Safety culture by attending both pre and post contract meetings as required.
•Assist in the review and update of all Tristar Health & Safety Policies, Procedures, Risk Assessments & Method Statements.
•Assist in the implementation of new Health & Safety related Policies and Procedures.
•Assist in the management & review of accident/incident reporting procedures and assist in accident investigations as required.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in the collection, analysis and evaluation of accident and incident statistics, including road traffic accidents, and incidents of occupational ill-health.
•Liaise with enforcing authorities and SBC occupational health dept as requested by the Health & Safety Officer.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in liaison with HR Dept on managing Health & Safety related sickness absence
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in the management of the Employee Protection Register and assist in ensuring effective communication of relevant information to key stakeholders.
•Assist in the maintenance of the Asbestos Management Plan, including the recording of asbestos containing materials, and advise on Asbestos related issues.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in ensuring Health & Safety related maintenance programmes are in place (e.g. PAT Testing, Fire Alarm & Extinguisher checks, Woodworking Machinery Maintenance, Roller Shutter Inspections, Fork Lift Truck Inspections, Ladder & Stepladder Safety Inspections etc)
•Assist in the evaluation of Contractors and Suppliers on Health & Safety Performance.
•Attend Health & Safety Committee meetings and Asbestos Working Group meetings as required.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in implementing the Company’s Fire Safety Strategy for Buildings in Multiple Occupancy by carrying out fire risk assessments and advising on remedial works.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in the establishment and implementation of the Company’s Workplace Transport Strategy.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in working towards obtaining accreditation to OHSAS 18000 (Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Standard).
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in ensuring the health, safety & welfare (so far as reasonably practicable) of all employees of Tristar Homes, its customers, partners, contractors and anyone else who may be affected by its acts or omissions.
•Assist in the management of the Service Level Agreement with SBC including the coordination of CDM.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in representing Tristar Homes’ Health & Safety interests on Joint Consultative Group.
•Assist the Health & Safety Officer in representing Tristar Homes’ Health & Safety interests at a variety of corporate meetings including High Rise Officer & Customer Groups, Business Continuity Group, Carbon Savers group etc.
•Participate in Health & Safety training programmes and be committed to a programme of continual professional development as requested by the Health & Safety Officer.
•Any other duties which may be relevant to the management of the Company’s Health & Safety functions as requested by the Health & Safety Officer.
•Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act at all times
•Promote and represent the Company both internally and externally to maximise its success and maintain the highest standards of professionalism, conduct and integrity within the Company at all times.
•Be an ambassador for Contract Services and the Customer Excellence Framework.
•Comply with all Company policies, procedures and protocol including the Equality and Diversity framework.
•Comply with the Company’s financial regulations, standing orders and procurement strategy.
•Undertake such training as may be deemed necessary to meet the duties and responsibilities of the post
•Undertake such other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grading and nature of the post
•Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and co-operate with management, so far as is necessary to enable the compliance of the organisation's health and safety rules and legislative requirements

| Key Skills |
Candidate must have knowledge/experience of;
-Knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
-Knowledge and understanding of the current Asbestos Regulations (most recent updates took place at the beginning of this year)
-Understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and ability to undertake fire risk assessments
-Ability to perform audits and inspections

Educated to degree level or equivalent and/or ability to demonstrate relevant experience
